A great export, famous throughout the world, and fortunately sold at home, here in Chile, at prices you will find nowhere else! The wine industry is huge ,and we are right in the middle of it, on the border between the Maule Region and the Colchagua valley , giving you access to the largest Wine production area in Chile, a huge area of vineyards to explore and savour!
Just have a browse in the links below for a taste of some of what's available in the region! Follow the links for more Info, most of these sites have state of the art web pages and are a treat to see. A point worth noting is that a some of these vineyards are working vineyards and do not organize regular wine tasting's or visits, so check the web page for details of visiting times.
However here is an example that you could easily follow in a day ,if you were staying at the Fundo. You could start at Viña Santa Cruz. This is a large vineyard . The valley floor is filled with vines which extend up the steep hillside .There is a large restaurant with panoramic views over the estate, a wine tasting center ,and also an Indigenous village, reached by cable car (really!), representing three different cultures, the Aymara,Mapuche and Rapa Nui cultures. Next a visit to Viu Manent, could be squeezed in and at 5 k from Santa Cruz you could manage a bit of shopping on the way! Along with the wonderful wine, the highlight for me were the Clydesdale horses used to pull the old coach for the vineyard tour. Well worth a visit.
If time permits,Viña El Huique, steeped in history, this vineyard is just how you would imagine a typical traditional vineyard to look , old adobe buildings with the familiar red tiles have all been restored and a lot of the original equipment used in wine making, has been retained in a museum .However a quick check will show many vineyards in the Santa Cruz area.
In no particular order ,Trying to place closest to the farm first. Still adding as I find them ,but there are a lot!! However this is a true labour of love so check back as my investigations grow.
Their are professional Wine tours provided in both Curico and Santa Cruz ,which will happily organise a tour for you, if you would rather someone else did the research and bookings for you. Links below.
Vineyards of the Maule Valley and the Rio Mataquito Valley
Wine route for Curico, Maule. region
This wide valley that runs parallel to the Andes mountain range and the coast has the largest area of vineyards in Chile. There is a long wine growing tradition that goes back to the times of the Spanish colonization, vineyards planted with ‘cepa país’ (country stocks grape), a red variety that was brought here by the Spaniards in the 16th century.
Carmenere is its emblematic grape, rediscovered in Chile after it was destroyed worldwide by Grape phylloxera. In November 1994, a specialist of the Jean Micheal Boursiquot vineyard, declared that a large part of these vineyards had not been cultivating Merlot but Carmenere or Grande Vidure!
In the vineyards of this area there are two realities: one sector, made up of fine wine varieties and another older and more traditional, common varieties for local consumption.
The Rio Mataquito is formed from Rio Teno and Rio Lontue and flows to the sea. These rivers form a huge water resource for the Curico wine area and the many vineyards stretching down to the coastal areas.
Viñedos Puertas
650 hectares of wonderful vines and a winery for 22 million liters! The Corona De Aragon, Cabernet Sauvingon Reserva is a favorite of mine . Based in Curico,a fine example of local winemaking skills.

Viña Corral Victoria
Chilean traditions have been our focus, therefore sharing and presenting them has been a must for our vineyard. Corral Victory represents the essence of the Chilean farm, where huasos (Chilean cowboys), sports and the breeding of fine, criollo horses are brought together with stables, round pens and rodeo arenas. In order to unify the traditionally old way of the farm with the idea to reunite two traditional products such as horses and wine, the first vineyard plantations were planted in 1998 with the objective to produce a product of excellent representative quality of the earth and sun of the Maule Valley. Corral Victoría vineyards has chosen representative and original wine brands in order to offer our products at the national and international levels, taking the name of Chile and of the “huasos” to all latitudes, fulfilling our hard work of showing what the country can offer.

Viña Montes
The first activities at our vineyard began in 1987. Two partners with great illusions, Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, both holding long-standing experience in the wine industry, were certain Chile could improve on the quality it was producing at the time. It seemed as if the large and medium-scale vineyards were satisfied with limiting their distribution to local supermarkets. They certainly knew how to produce premium wines, but didn’t feel up to it, they were satisfied with the niche markets they had attained, which was certainly broad, although small. In 1988, another two original partners joined in, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand, each providing their qualified, complimentary views, and thus, Viña Montes was formally born, initially under the name Discover Wine Ltda., a saga that has made Chile internationally known in 75 countries worldwide while providing extensive recognition and acclaim Tour of vineyards, viewing point and tasting.
